Shore Medical Center invites community to learn about hernia care and try out the da Vinci Xi surgical robot
Ever wonder what it’s like to operate a surgical robot? Shore Medical Center is giving community members the opportunity to find out during “Get Hands-On with Robotic Surgery,” a free educational breakfast and interactive robotic surgery simulation experience at the Linwood Country Club, 500 Shore Rd., on Wednesday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event will feature Shore Physicians Group general surgeons John Millili, DO, Chair of the Surgical Department at Shore Medical Center, and James Tayoun, DO, who will discuss hernias, including common signs and symptoms, when to seek medical attention, surgical treatment options and what patients can expect during recovery.
Following the presentation, guests will have the rare opportunity to get hands-on with the da Vinci Xi surgical system, sitting at the surgeon console and experiencing firsthand how the technology translates a surgeon’s movements into precise movements of robotic instruments.
The event is designed to take some of the mystery out of robotic surgery while giving community members a better understanding of how the technology is used in patient care.
The morning will include:
- 10–10:30 a.m. – Complimentary continental breakfast
- 10:30–11 a.m. – Hernia education with Dr. Millili and Dr. Tayoun
- 11 a.m.–noon – Hands-on da Vinci robotic surgery demonstrations
