At Shore Medical Center, we understand that bright lights, loud sounds, and unfamiliar routines can make healthcare visits overwhelming for neurodiverse patients. That’s why we’ve created specialized environments to make care more accessible, calming, and compassionate.
With expert guidance and staff training provided by occupational and speech therapists from the Atlantic County Special Services School District, we proudly offer three sensory-friendly care programs:
Pediatric Emergency Care
Our separate, child-friendly Pediatric Care Center offers a full sensory-friendly experience, with trained staff, communication tools, calming visual and sound elements, and take-home comfort kits.

Adult ER Sensory Room – Coming Summer 2025
Thanks to the Eagles Autism Foundation, this new space will offer a calming atmosphere, reduced sensory input, and trained staff support for adults with sensory sensitivities.
