Shore Medical Center Names Robert Protesto, RN, its March 2026 Guardian Angel of the Month

Shore Medical Center has named Robert Protesto, RN, as its Guardian Angel of the Month for March 2026. Shore established the Guardian Angel program to provide patients and families with a meaningful way to say “thank you” to a special Shore caregiver through a donation made in their honor.

Protesto has been a valued member of the Shore family since 2001, beginning his career on the 5 Hayes nursing unit where he continues to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients on the unit more than two decades later. Known for his calm, steady presence and dependable nature, Protesto is described by colleagues as kind, smart, considerate, flexible, committed, and fun.

As a critical member of the 5 Hayes team, Protesto regularly precepts new staff, mentors and supports nurses, and contributes to recruitment and retention efforts, ensuring that the unit continues to provide excellent care. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and is actively involved in his church.

One patient who honored Protesto with a Guardian Angel award shared, “There is so much to thank my nurse Bob for, but most of all I’d like to thank him for the respect he gave me. I am 88 years old and can’t thank Bob enough for his kindness and compassion. My daughter was also so impressed with his nursing abilities and his confidence, which made us both feel heard and that I was receiving the best care.”

Shore Medical Center’s Guardian Angel program allows patients and families to recognize any Shore caregiver who made a meaningful difference in their care or experience. Guardian Angels are honored among their peers and receive a Guardian Angel pin during Shore’s annual pinning ceremony.
