Shore Medical Center Earns an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

New Grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety

Shore Medical Center earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

"Earning an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group is more than a grade—it’s a reflection of our relentless commitment to the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and equitable care," said Dr. Leonard Galler, Chief Medical Officer of Shore Medical Center. "This recognition reassures our patients and their families that when they come to Shore, they are receiving the safest and highest quality of healthcare."

"Achieving this top safety rating requires rigorous evaluation across key areas like infection control, clinical outcomes, and evidence-based practices," said Valerie DeJoseph, Administrative Director of Quality, Medical Staff Services & Regulatory for Shore Medical Center. "It’s a true team effort—our staff continuously trains, innovates, and collaborates to ensure we deliver the safest, most effective care possible for our community."

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Shore Medical Center, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
