Shore Medical Center Cited by The Joint Commission As Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® for 2012

December 18, 2013

For its demonstrated excellence in providing exceptional medical care, Shore Medical Center has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® for 2012 by The Joint Commission. This award honors Shore for clinical excellence in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

Shore is one of only 1,099 hospitals throughout the entire country recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in adhering to evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care. The medical center was previously honored as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2010.

“This honor was made possible through the hard work and dedication of everyone throughout our organization,” said Valerie DeJoseph, Administrative Director of Quality, Performance Improvement and Regulatory Affairs. “Delivering the highest quality care and service to our patients, their families and our community is our passion. Meeting The Joint Commission’s rigorous standard for excellence is something we can all be proud of.”

To be named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, Shore had to achieve a 95 percent or higher score in several accountability measures. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice, such as giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients or administering antibiotics one hour before surgery.

“Shore Medical Center has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and chief executive officer of The Joint Commission.

An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting healthcare body. Along with general hospital certifications, the Joint Commission also certifies institutions that provide excellence in patient care for disease-specific programs.

Shore has received advanced certification by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, and has received the organization’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Spine Surgery and its Hip and Knee Joint Replacement programs.

Shore’s recognition as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® comes on the heels of the international Planetree Organization naming Shore a “Planetree Designated® Patient-Centered Hospital” – a designation highlighting Shore’s achievement and innovation in the delivery of patient-centered care. Shore is the first and only hospital in New Jersey and one of less than 50 healthcare organizations worldwide to receive Planetree Patient-Centered Designation since the program’s launch in 2007.
